Are we required to provide an updated rule book to originators annually? We give them one when they initially start processing with the bank and then give updates. We have been providing a new rule book annually via CD and this option is going away and costs are going up. We are just looking to see if there is a way we can save some $$$.

What do other banks do on an annual basis to provide education to their ACH originators?

Somewhere
We send them an annual letter and within the letter is a link to the rule book and we tell them to read/review it and remind them of their responsibilities under ACH rules.

We send an updated copy (actually, a link with a code for an updated copy.)

OK, so you are then actually out the expense for the link and code. Correct?

We created a 15-page publication which explains the basics of their responsibilities and also informs them how to obtain a free copy of the rules.

It reads:
You can order a hardcopy of the NACHA Operating Rules and Guidelines at:
https://www.nacha.org/rules

You can view a free online version of the NACHA Operating Rules at:*
https://www.achrulesonline.org/

You can view updates to the NACHA Operating Rules and Guidelines at:
https://www.nacha.org/rules/updates

For additional information, you may visit the official NACHA website at:
https://www.nacha.org/

Thanks Dingo, we knew there was a better way to do things than purchasing a new manual for them every year. We are a small bank and only have around 15 ACH originators, but still knew there had to be a better solution!

I don't think there's a free version of the rules anymore. I think it requires a subscription. You may want to check on that before you tell your originators it's free!

Pulling people out of the ditc...
definitely no free versions online from NACHA these days...

we send an email to all originators providing the link for them to order, but with over 5,000 originators, no way am i paying for that. we have in our contract that they will order and adhere to, but we don't enforce the ordering part...no way for us to do that

There is still a free version of the operating rules. However, the website has changed: "https://www.nachaoperatingrulesonline.org". You do have to subscribe, but the Basic Subscription is free. It is an online read-only version of the rules, that does not include the guidelines or anything else fancy. There is an itty bitty box for the Basic Subscription that you have to mark, if I remember correctly it is close to the top of the page.

YES! Thank you TJD. It is the rules and not the guidlines and still free. I checked before I posted.

That is one thing we let our originators know: that it is free but they do have to register to get them.

We charge them for it per our contracted agreement. As others have said though, if you have a lot it might be easier to contract and require them to get it on their own.
