I woke up on Sunday with wobbly legs. I just thought it was due to being on my feet most of Saturday, but when I went to work on Monday, I still felt weak going up to my office. Fast forward to lunch, I was leaving work and had to catch myself on the railing to make it down the stairs without falling. My knees just kept collapsing. I made it to my doctor who referred me to a neurologist who could see me immediately. I admit that I had already been doing some "Doctor Google" searches and decided my symptoms closely matched those of Guillain Barre syndrome since I had just gotten over a lengthy battle with a cold. I was terrified because all I read about were people becoming paralyzed (albeit temporarily) and having to be on a ventilator. The neurologist confirmed that I most likely had GBS but said we should just watch and wait to see if it progresses. He said the cases online are the most severe and that it could go away without intervention soon. I'm just so scared that it's going to get worse. I'm trying not to think about it, but it's difficult. I have a baby at home who is just about to turn 1 next week, and it makes me sick to think I might not be able to celebrate his birthday at home with him.

That all being said, I believe prayer works and would really appreciate all the prayers I can get. This is just really scary.

And if anyone has any positive stories about GBS, those would be appreciated, too. Everything I'm reading online is mostly doom and gloom with the exception of the Dallas Cowboys center who is out for the season with the same thing. Every time I'm feeling down, I just say his name to get me in a better mindset. It's a small thing, but it's working a little.

Thoughts are with you. Don't know about BS. From the Positive side, you recognized an issue, you got to see a specialist quickly who was familiar with the symptoms. It is scary, but worrying won't put you in a better frame than cuddling your son. They outgrow it too quickly..

Prayers work, and your story was just passed on to a bunch of South Carolina prayer warriors. Good luck!

You are here
Fortunately, most people eventually recover from even the most severe cases of GBS.

Best of luck

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
I had a friend who contracted that disease. She was weak and tired for a long time, but never paralyzed. She has fully recovered. She was an older woman - I'm assuming if you have a year old child you are much younger and probably stronger than she was. Praying that you recover quickly!

Thank you all so very much! And waldensouth, I’m optimistic that the weakness will be all I have to deal with. Thank you for letting me know about your friend’s experience.
