Some friends and I are renting a house in Panama City Beach in May. Any suggestions for fun things to do and good places to eat?

Way, way south.
I can ask my in-laws as they've been in PCB for a few months rebuilding from the last hurricane. A lot of the area got badly damaged and there's a ton of work up there. I'll ask them next time we talk and let you know.

out of the frying pan...
One of the guys who works here went down to volunteer last weekend. He said it's slowly making a comeback but that there are still some areas without power/cable/phone and some people are still living in tents. His group was working on houses but he says it looks like the business areas are recovering a bit faster.

I checked with the owner of the house and he said it weathered the storm just fine. It always amazes me how one area will be destroyed while another seems to be unscathed.

there is a What-a-burger at the corner of Hwy 98 and Alf Coleman road, can't go wrong with that. come back in late april and ask again, because a good number of businesses still have not reopened but in 2-3 months will have. also, where in town are you staying east, central, or west side of PCB? depending on the time of year, navigating the strip is difficult from traffic

The Swamp
I watched a drone pre and post video yesterday. Mind boggling...the entire tree canopy is gone...and so many blue tarps...everywhere.

Ditto on The Red Bar. Also spend an afternoon in Seaside. They have some great food trucks.

Captain Anderson's is highly recommended. Excellent Seafood and they are open.

I just saw on the news, The Red Bar in Grayton Beach burned to the ground last night....so nix that off the list. Such a loss.

If you go to the West end of the Beach, Pier Park is just fine and going strong. Lots of places to eat there. Shuckums is a good seafood place there. As a matter of fact, when you cross over Hathaway Bridge going into PCB there's not nearly as much damage over there so all the shopping area is in good shape.
