Does this classify as an ag loan or consumer loan? The loan is secured by tractors for personal expenses. Does this fall into the category of "other loans to farmers"?

Are you referring to the call report?? What is the context of your question?

for Reg Z this would be a consumer loan...also for call report purposes. FWIW, I have a tractor, livestock and acreage. I neither 1) have a farm nor 2) and ag purpose involved in any endeavor on that property or with that livestock.

rl - I was informed that for call report purposes it is considered and ag loan. I feel it is a consumer loan. I think we should code it as an ag loan for the call report but the acuatul loan will be written as a consumer chattel. I am wondering if there are any issues with this procedure?

You would include as an ag loan: Loans and advances to farmers for all other purposes associated with the maintenance or
(cont.) operations of the farm, including purchases of private passenger automobiles and other retail consumer goods and provisions for the living expenses of farmers or ranchers and their families.

Does the borrower file a Schedule F on his/her federal income tax return? If not, it's a stretch to call this an ag loan.

I'd like to know what the funds are being used for. Private education? Face Lift? Help family? Adopt baby? Doesn't seem like those would fall into the ag category.
