Where I am supposed to be
No summer trip but going on a fishing trip to Lake Vermillion in northern MN with my father-in-law in September. Family cruise over Christmas (just me, Mrs. PP and our son). Also, living in our park model trailer (think tiny home) at the lake for the summer then maybe road tripping until our cruise in FL, then more road tripping after the cruise, working our way west along the gulf coast until need to be back in MN March 1.

Working remotely has some perks.

You would think - but it wasn't true a couple of years ago when we went to NYC! It was 95 in NYC and 103 in TX - and TX felt cooler because of the lack of humidity. Hopefully it won't be so hot in New England though.

OK
About 8 years ago, my brother, my son and I flew to Portland, Maine in mid-June. The day we flew out, it was 96 degrees here. Stepped off the plane (sun still out, not nighttime) and it was 57 degrees. (It did warm up from there.....the 4 days we were there after that were highs about 75 or so...beautiful.)

ETA: I almost didn't close my parentheses.....can't be air-conditioning the whole paragraph.

I'm curious to know the level of success you've had with sign-ups for this cruise. It seems like a tough sell to executives or the board. My boss wanted to submit this request as an April Fool's joke (we have a very stingy CFO).

In our survey in September 2018, over 200 replied they would be on the ship, so we booked a larger ship to accommodate. We are short of that. As you said, it's been a tough sell to exec's. There's still room and we're still going to sail. It's very practical when you think about the cost of losing, food, etc. at a conference. The cruise has all of that included and we're going to have 20 hours of training (that's 2 ½ days at a conference).

I guess it comes down to trust. Do your exec's trust the compliance officer.

It's also ironic that many Sr. Mgt / Board conferences are held in Hawaii, Vegas, etc.

So, I assume there is a casino involved?

Not only that but compare the agenda of the Executive conferences to the agenda of the NRCC

Why, yes. I believe the ship has a casino. It probably depends on how good of a gambler you are. wink

Ah! We should have a "Risk Management" session on the compliance cruise (meet in the casino to have proper tools for the training). smile

Don't know if anyone saw David's cruise promotion video where he asked viewers to vote on whether he should teach in business attire or swim trunks. I vote that he should go full Speedo (since I won't be on the cruise).

There has to be a regulation somewhere that would be violated by such an act. smirk

I think it's more of a constitutional issue - cruel and unusual punishment.

I just got back from a 2 week vacation with Glacier National Park being the main destination. Wow! It's a beautiful park. If you haven't been there, put it on your list. The gem of the entire part is "Many Glacier" area on the north east side of the park. It's breathtaking.

If you go, you need to book lodging 1 year in advance. Stay at this place and you'll think you're in Switzerland:

Utopia

I just returned from a trip to San Diego and Palm Springs, which included spending time at Joshua Tree National Park.

Although the it was 108 degrees, the scenery was beautiful. My goal is to try to get to as many of the National Parks as I can.

Next year we are retuning to Sturgis for the 80th anniversary so back to the Badlands and also I missed the Wind Cave NP last time so that is a must this time.

Spent a long weekend at Yellowstone with the family. Had a great time and saw plenty of animals and beautiful scenery. Next year hoping to hit Zion's and Bryce Canyon.

Don't think I reported back on our experience with Oshkosh in July. It was a fantastic trip and everything I was hoping for from an aviation perspective. We spent five days on the field seeing thousands of planes as well as hundreds of aviation-related vendors, and attending classes and workshops. Miles and miles of walking (averaged about 20,000 steps per day). Camping beside the plane each night for five nights and waking up and doing some more. Got most of my questions answered on what I'm going to need and a plan of action for upgrading my panel to IFR and glass. Spending time with thousands of other pilots and aviation enthusiasts. Airshows every day, including appearances by both the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds. Night air show on Wed night (didn't stay for the Sat night airshow), including the best fireworks display I've ever seen. If you are interested in photos, here's a link to EAA's photos - the first 30 pages are from this year's show - https://www.flickr.com/photos/eaaairventureoshkosh/page1. Over 10,000 airplanes at KOSH and surrounding airports. Attendance over 645,000 over the seven days of the show. Can't wait for next July to do it all over again.
