We have cash recyclers. This is our process. I audit it with the teller drawers. We piece count the whole machine and the branch manager and tellers help out bundling all of it so it's easier to count. After all the cash has been counted, we end up counting the coin too and matching it to the report that the machine has with how much total money should be in the cash recycler. This does take a few hours depending on how much money is in the machine so usually I try to go earlier in the morning or when it's not a busy day.

How often do you do this?

Sorry I forgot to add that, it's a annual surprise audit by me. The managers also piece count the machine at least semiannually.

I've delved more into this now. Our cash recycler has an audit feature-- you put on an extra canister & it verifies all denominations (not coin). It took about 45 mins & the recycler was fairly full at the time. I also did verify all the drawers & vault on this same day so I could balance all to the GL. We also set up dual control procedures if they need to access the canisters--it requires 2 codes. One the tellers have & the other the officers have.

We audit our recyclers once a quarter by the teller supervisors and annually by a random cash count.

My tip is to reload the ones last. They are not newer bills like any denomination. We spent the better part of an hour clearing jams of ones as if it were a copier.
