Diahann Carroll -- I am old enough to remember when Julia came on the air to so much hoopla. The first time a black woman was on TV not playing a domestic but a middle class woman with a good job. She played a widow with a child who worked as a nurse Her husband died in Vietnam. She dated black men who also had middle class jobs, something not seen very often on TV then. In a way, it set the stage for the Cosby show. But at the time, it was ground breaking.

I've been sad about it all weekend. Regardless of political beliefs, she was a champion for equal rights for all and will be fondly remembered.

I did not want to go there but how about here? (not a negative or slam)
https://www.rd.com/article/ruth-bader-ginsburg/
During the 1970s, she brought six cases before the Supreme Court, winning all but one. Ironically, “RBG’s signature approach to combatting sexism was bringing lawsuits on behalf of men who were being treated unequally because of their sex,” Franke says. “Her thinking was that male judges would appreciate the injustice in a case where men were the victims, and in winning those cases she was building the scaffolding for addressing the sexism women suffered. As an initial approach to combating sexism, Ginsburg’s strategy was extremely effective.” For example, in Duren v. Missouri, she argued and won on behalf of a male convict who felt his right to a jury chosen from a fair cross-section of his community was violated because it didn’t include women, whose jury duty was voluntary.

Couple of problems with that cite. First, the military didn't have a policy nor was engaged in "forced abortions". That is a complete misrepresentation designed to shock and offend. They simply said you could no longer serve in the military. The choice of leaving the military or getting an abortion was entirely with the mother. Second, Ginsburg didn't fight to end abortion in that instance. She fought to change the military policy on discharge. She was not taking a position defending the rights of unborn babies.

I really don't want to turn this political because I respect this forum too much. I respect everyone's opinion and do not want my comment to further any divisiveness here.

This type of argument (not a slam Fly, but agreeing with you) has cause issues with the entire SCOTUS appointment process and it it has been from both sides (add a third or forth if you wish) of the political process. Wouldn't it be great it the powers to be look at the overall merits of a candidate (or their legacy)and make a decision on the overall appropriateness of a candidate or their legacy. From what I have read Ginsberg played well with others even though had strong opinions of her own.

While the politicians will "Bork" a nominee or their legacy let us not do it here.
