Can a Power of Attorney certify the tin for an individual on an account or should we require a W-9 be completed and signed by their client? We have a company whose business helps people with their finances. Their clients social security numbers are used on each account. The company and its principals are listed as POA on one of their required forms.

Do the POAs not give the right to their agents to act on behalf of the principal? Isn't that the reason for a POA?

Are tax matters checked on the POA or alternatively they could complete a IRS Form 2848.
