I just had a situation I've never encountered before and am wondering if anyone has any guidance. A reportable cash deposit was made into a checking account but an encoding error by the teller caused it to post to a different account in error. When completing the CTR would you report the account number it went into in error or the account number it should have gone into? This one made my head hurt!

Not really sure why you would report it based on a bank error.

So you're saying just put the account number it should have gone into even though it did post to another account?

Why would you report it on an account that was not involved in the transaction? You said this was a teller error.

Randy's point is, the bank made an error. Don't proliferate that error by reporting the wrong account number on the CTR. Report the account number associated with the person(s) on whose behalf the deposit was made.
