We have had an incident where there was a typo in the SSN on the document given to our lending assistant to run a credit report and, as a result, he pulled a report on the wrong individual. What does the bank needs to do to rectify this so this individual who is not our customer doesn’t have an inquiry from us?

The administrator for your credit bureau account will need to contact the bureau and ask them to remove the inquiry. They will probably need some kind of letter in order to complete the request. There used to be a Universal Data form that you would complete and send in to correct errors like this but I am not sure if they still require that; contacting your bureau's rep will be able to help you.
