We have an application where the applicants checked the Other Asian box for Race, then circled one of the examples instead of writing it in the box. They circled Cambodian, but did not write that in the box. Would proper HMDA reporting be Borrower Race 1 code 27 for other Asian, then enter Cambodian in the Borrower Other Asian field or leave it blanc since they did not write that in the box?

there's nothing that says a borrower has to write anything anywhere. You want them to answer the question. They did so you report what they indicated, no matter how they indicated it.
