I heard that the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) was going to be extended to 09/31/2021. Does anyone know if this was confirmed? Thanks.

It is part of the continuing appropriations act, but I think the date is Dec 11, 2020.

I do stand corrected - I was just reading the press release concerning the bill and while it extended other programs until Dec 11th, 2020, I read the actual bill this morning. The NFIP was in fact extended until Sept 30, 2021.

SEC. 146. (a) Section 1309(a) of the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 (42 U.S.C. 4016(a)) is amended by striking ‘‘September 30, 2019’’ and inserting ‘‘September 30, 2021’’.

I don't see that it ever passed the Senate. Is the NFIP now suspended unable to sell insurance?

It does not have to - the House controls the purse strings.

OK - I stand corrected again. The Senate will vote today and Trump will sign before midnight.

Where the heck is my civics book????

The article above says 12/11/2020. Are they mistaken or did the Senate rewrite that paragraph? Randy???

Much of the bill continued appropriations to keep government operating through December 11, 2020, but the extension of the NFIP (section 146 of the Act) specifically changes its expiration date to September 30, 2021..

Every time the NFIP runs up to the deadline like this, there is a flurry of closings and a bigger flurry of speculation and question about whether it's been extended and what happens if it's not. And the irony is that the NFIP is getting further and further away from its original goal of getting government out of the practice of bailing out (deliberate choice of words) property owners who are wiped out by floods. And we just keep building back in the same floodplains.
