Trying to figure out if we have a responsibility to file a SAR or not in this situation...

A selling agent reaches out to us about a pre-approval letter for a jumbo mortgage, but we did not issue the pre-approval letter that was being presented.

Come to find out the member applied for a mortgage in 2019, we gave them a pre-approval letter, but they said nevermind, we are going with someone else. It appears they took the preapproval letter, updated the date and amount approved and submitted it to their agent.

We have a forged document with our logo and our employees name on it. But there was no transaction or attempted transaction at our institution.

Thoughts on SAR or no SAR?

I would file. I would also file a police report or potentially even talk to the FBI.
