GeoDataVision has just published another free national map of Combined Statistical Areas ("CSA's") which can be valuable for CRA compliance purposes because CSA's are an exception to the rule that limits Assessment Areas to areas no larger than a MSA.

With more and more community banks adopting non-traditional market strategies a problem has been created wherein the adequacy of a bank's lending inside its Assessment Area(s) is being questioned by examiners. The "Assessment Area ratio" has been interpreted to mean a bank must lend at least 50% of its CRA-measured loans within its Assessment Areas. CSA's offer a potential resolution to the AA Ratio dilemma created by broader market strategies.
