Our online mortgage application asks for GMI when the loan will be secured by a dwelling. We were a HMDA reporter at one time but no longer fall under the HMDA requirements (for now). However, we are still required to collect GMI under ECOA on purchases and certain refinances. Trying to figure out how to handle the GMI that is being collected in error for loans that don't fall under ECOA GMI requirements. Concerned we could get slapped in the hand for even collecting it in error. Considering covering it up with a note stating collected online and not needed for this type of loan. What do other banks do? Does anyone have an online application that system that is smart enough to know when to require GMI for ECOA only? Thanks.
