I recall donating office space to a NPO serving LMI could possibly receive favorable credit under CRA. Could the same hold true if you rent office space to a CDFI? I understand it wouldn't serve as a donation if they are paying rent, but could you potentially receive other credit?
In past exams, we have submitted donated office space to organizations with a CD purpose, and it was considered a qualified donation. In my opinion, renting to a CDFI would not qualify unless maybe the rent has been discounted.
We get credit for a discounted rental rate to a credit counseling center. You need to keep track of the market rent vs the discounted rate and we get credit for the annual difference.
