Because it doesn't tell you in the instructions I will let you know - You CAN repeat letters.

I just gave it a shot! I'm not very good at it.....

I just tried it....lucked out (truly) with my 2nd guess, which was only one letter off. Kinda fun.

Took me 4 tries and then got it but it took me a couple of tries to figure out what I was doing! It is fun.

Just gave it a try and got it on the 4th try but I must admit I was lost on the first 2 guesses before I figured out what I was supposed to do.

I agree with you all. It is fun but the directions are so minimal it takes a bit to figure it out. Did better Day 2 - I lost today

I've gotten it two days in a row. Both days my starting word was PILOT (of course).

Stumped for the 1st time today.....argh.

When you get stumped, does it then tell you the word?

I got today, but took me five tries.

my first try took 2 attempts, next 2 took 4 attempts (one because i didn't realize you could use the same letter 2x, otherwise would have had on 2. today took 6 but i got it.

Got it at 3 today.

I just did and it was pure luck.

I just got today's word on the 2nd try. Only because it's one of the 2 or 3 words I always start with.

Wow-kudos to you! I wonder if we all get the same word. I bombed this one but have guessed the others since the start of this thread. I like the challenge but don't like waiting a day.

I have tried it on two different platforms the same day and gotten the same word, so I think it's the same for all of us.

I had the same word today as well. So far, I've gotten them all, but I forgot to play one day over the weekend.

In the 70's, we played a similar game but it was not words - it was played with colored pegs. I can't remember how many tries you had to guess the order of the colored pegs that were hidden from you, but it seems to be about the same - 6 or so. The name of the game was Master Mind.

I"ve played this exact word game somewhere before...not sure where.

That's been my strategy too - use two vowels in first guess and two different vowels in second guess, plus throw in a couple of the common consonants and that will get you a very good start.

barely got it on the 6th attempt today. Certain things always trip me up

We still have a well worn copy of this game! It's one of the ones you can play with young kids to help them with order and logic. My grans love it.

Yes, it really is about getting a good first guess in sometimes. If your 1st guess comes up dry, it can be tough.

I'm officially hooked. I'm also grateful for the single word limit - otherwise I can see I'd spend WAY too much time on it.

I've got one word that I always start with that has two different vowels and three commonly used letters. If that comes up dry, I've got a second word that has two other vowels and three more commonly used letters. That will usually get me a great start and narrow down the field of remaining available letters.

I use the same approach, RV. And when you've eliminated a number of vowels, it can really help you narrow down which consonants are likely to be in the word and where they might (or can't) be placed.

I try to follow that philosophy, but i don't use the same word or words every day.

i use the same word daily to start, only once has it returned zero results.

Announced yesterday - Wordle has been acquired by the New York Times for low seven figures. Not bad for a guy that invented it as a hobby and gift to his girlfriend.

It's the gift that keeps on giving! I just hope the NYT doesn't make it "subscribers only."

Hellowordl Here's a version you can play more than once a day. I want to check out Absurdle too - that one looks much harder.

They've said they won't for now.

I tried Wordle a couple times but it just didn't hook me. too much of a guessing game. I'm still a Sudoku fan.

First guess today i had the first 4 letters in order....quite lucky.

Anyone find the words are tougher since the NY Times purchased it?

They've been pretty tough the last week or so, i would say.

Today's sure was.

I got today's on the next to last guess, but missed at least one of the ones that began with a "U".

Haven't missed any yet - only got to six once!

It does seem like NYT is choosing more obscure words. I had to think about yesterday's word for a LONG time.

I wish they would give a hint when they are using the same letter twice.

That's part of the thinking challenge that I love about this game.

I'm not fond of the words that start with a vowel. I've definitely had to think harder lately, but haven't missed any.

I need more patience...sometimes i just get tired of it and make quick guesses. That, and it took me about 2 weeks to really figure out that i had a used letter board at the bottom to help.

Playing but not sharing results daily. I haven't missed one yet but I'm stressed every day that it will be the first time I do. LOL! Usually guess in 4 tries max.

I'm pretty much neck and neck on 3 and 4 - I get to 5 a little less than 20% of the time.

I just downloaded the app.....i'm doing better on it (words are just as tough when you get to the 5 letter ones...you have to jump through about 15 rounds of 4 letter words first). I got 23 in a row before i missed on "write" (i know, i know...shouldn't have been that hard).

If I downloaded the app I probably would not get much work done, so I will delay taking that step.

I got a little obsessive with it last night....got to level 35 or so (3 or 4 words a level i think). Fun.....have to wait through some ads (unless you want to pay, which i don't)....

Ok...official complaint about the app....I just whiffed (obviously) on the word "Iraqi"...I thought it went without saying on these word games that proper nouns were a no no, but evidently not.

At about level 100 or so, the app becomes 6 letter wordle, which is much tougher.

I just looked at mine....try searching for something like "wordle--6 tries 1 word". It has that moniker on it.

Correct. But it lets you play more than one game a day, with multiple formats. But it is still a knockoff.

I don't guess i see the issue......since the NYT didn't invent Wordle and this app follows the rules of Wordle.

The app is totally different. I did the same thing and downloaded it until someone told me "real" Wordle was only online. I like both and play both.

How is it totally different, other than the fact that it lets you play more than one game a day? The only difference i have seen is the word "Iraqi".

Does the NYT have a monopoly on cool 5-letter words or something?

I read an article the other day that there are actually 2 word lists for Wordle right now. There is the original list from the creator of the game and a new list from the NYT. People are being moved to the NYT website, sometimes automatically, but anyone who is still on the original website is getting a different word.

This has been gnawing at me as well.....i feel like i played "wordle" (not called that at the time) a longggg time ago somewhere. When this thread was created and i clicked on that link, i immediately had the feeling/knowledge/remembrance that i had played this game already before. As for the word list...i don't get it. I feel like anyone with average intelligence can grab a dictionary or just scroll through their brain for challenging 5 letter words.

this can't be true, because the other day i had the word "shake", and several people i work with would find it insensitive if they knew that is how their body looks when they walk...
