I am trying to find information for our card department regarding a change to the chargeback threshold. Visa is saying a dispute for under $25.00, when card is present, can not be disputed because it's rejected and states "No chargeback rights – Visa Easy Payment transaction."

We always had the understanding that the threshold was $50.00. Our card department reached out to our rep but she was not very helpful.
Any clarification would be helpful.

You will find Visa's minimum dispute amounts in Rule 11.4.3 of the Visa Operating Rules

Thanks BrianC, I looked in section 11.4.3 and must not understand Visa rules well enough to make heads or tales of the information. And no where in the 889 pages of information does it talk about $25 or $50.

Rejection of the dispute because it's under $25 = more loss to the bank.

Wouldn't a rejection of a dispute under $50.00 result in a greater loss to the Bank so I am confused why your initial question expesses concern that you thought the limit was $50.00 only to find out it is $25.00.

As to the VISA rules Table 11-5 of Rule 11.3.4
Minimum Dispute Amount :USD $25
For Automated Fuel Dispensers the Minimum Dispute Amount is :USD $10

Also, you are thinking only about losses due to the dollar amount of the dispute. How much does you bank pay a processor to file a chargeback? What are the hard costs and the soft costs of employee time for investigating a claim for under $25.00. There is a law of diminishing return here where you may spend more in processing and human resources costs than you actually recover.

BrianC, sorrry I missed the $25 and $10 as I was looking for the dollar sign in front of the number. Yes, I see what you are saying about the loss aspect to the bank. I guess we are used to being able to submit anything above $10.00 and not having an issue with the dispute process.
