I use the FFIEC site to geocode addresses for day-to-day CRA work to find out if a location is LMI, etc. Due to the delay in the most up to date data being available on the FFIEC site I was wondering what others are using to geocode in the interim?

Thank you!

Ironically, 2022 is the year the FFIEC will start using the Census 2020 file. You can geocode your 2022 loans from that site, but there are no demographics including the tract income class. I've inquired with the FFIEC about when to expect the release the database and have not received an answer yet.

Have you heard back from them as of yet? I realized by using the mapping that at least one of our counties have new census tracts added for 2020 Census. I need to update my policy and public folder but my maps and demographic information is out of date.

Some of the available CRA and fair lending analysis software packages may have incorporated 2020 census data.

It's impossible to update to the 2020 census tracts income class until the FFIEC releases the data. You can geocode to the 2020 tracts on the FFIEC website, but you will not know the tract income class which is critical. This information should have been posted by the end of 2021 but the FFIEC seems to be way behind the times. This also is reflected in the release of the 2020 CRA A&D data on December 21, 2021! How crazy is that - the CFPB published the 2020 HMDA data in May 2021, but the Fed can't publish the much smaller CRA files until the week before Christmas. The tardy reporting of the CRA A&D data began the year before the pandemic so they can't blame their lateness on the virus. I don't know what the cause is - it's certainly very puzzling.
