GeoDataVision has published free 2022 census tract reference books that indicate the minority status of census tracts. The free books can be obtained from here: Free 2022 Census Tract Reference Books with Majority-Minority Tracts Indicator.

These tracts are based on the Census 2020 survey and the tracts published by the FFIEC March 30, 2022 for use beginning in 2022.

I believe they will be released in the next few weeks, possibly before the end of April.

This is great - Thanks Len S.

Just confirming....Is a tract consider "minority" if the population percentage is over 50%? Is "super minority" over 80%?

First, all tracts with a minority population >50% are minority tracts. GeoDataVision distinguishes tracts with minority pop >80% as super minority tracts, but there is no difference for Fair Lending purposes. These minority tract definitions are based on the definition as applied by bank regulators. HUD itself does break out the tract minority population in a more granular level.

A note of caution, the minority tracts we have identified are based on including all minority groups as the minority population. However, sometimes regulators will omit Asians from the minority population.

For all of 2022 you will be expected to record loans based on the 2020 Census tracts even though the tract income classifications have yet to be determined and published.

GeoDataVision plans to publish live interactive maps on its website once the new tract income classes have been determined. I will post on BOL when that is available.

GDV will be announcing the availability of the new 2022 tracts with income class appended on Thursday, May 5. The free 2022 tract reference books will be available on our website. I will post a notice on BOL on May 5 with a link for the free tract reference books.
