I grew up in Astoria, Queens, NY and my mother lived in the same apartment complex for most of her entire life (from age 4 to age 84). When she was a kid, Tony Bennet used to deliver her pizzas.

Then, when I was a kid, I used to go to that pizza place, he was mega-famous by then, and there'd be pictures of him plastered everywhere. (my mother would say -- "Delivery? You're good enough to want it, you're good enough to walk up the block and get it!" you think your father's made of money?!)_

TR, I love the story of Rainbow Bridge
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

may years ago we were in Key West vacationing, went into Margaritaville for lunch, was not very crowded...as we were eating, here comes this guy around to the 4-5 tables there asking how the food was and introducing himself as "Jimmy", and chatting with each table for a few minutes. he then proceeds to walk up to the stage and picks up a guitar and played a few songs on his own, thanked us again for coming, and then comped our meals . how very cool. sadly, this was long before cell phones, so can't even claim a photo. we talked about this over the weekend, my oldest was only 5, he doesn't even remember it, and my wife vaguely remembers something like that happened. (there were actually 2 stages, 1 empty and the other with instruments already there, the waitstaff told us the ones set up were for Jimmy and his band in case they want to drop in and play, while the other was for any local band they hire to come play

Happy, great story. I was the CRA officer for a holding company that had a bank in the Keys. Key West was unique bacause it could have a $2M house sitting next to a $100K house and neither would look out of place.
Jimmy B was instrumental in Florida's "Save the Manatee" license plate. The plate was introduced at a televised news conference with the governor giving a personalized plate with "Buffet" on it to Jimmy. After the ceremony, a hot mike picked Jimmy Buffett up saying - with a smirk, "Governor, do you want me to advertise food? My name has two T's!"
:-)

Jimmy Buffett ( with the Neville Brothers opening) at Starwood Amphitheatre in Tennessee is on my list of top concerts I've ever attended. His music was the soundtrack of my summers on the lake growing up.
For the curious, other top concerts included the Grateful Dead at Berkeley, Oingo Boingo's farewell tour, The Talking Heads (both at Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin and at the fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta), and The Clash (Fox Theatre, Atlanta), and The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Los Lobos, and Stevie Ray Vaughan (Auditorium Shores in Austin) .
