Can Reg E provisional credit be given to a customer in a bulk amount or do we have to do each item individually?

Ex: Customer disputed 4 x $100 items. Can we give them a lump sum of $400 PC or do we need to do the 4 $100 credits to the account?

Reg E does not have a requirement one way or the other, as long as you notify the consumer of the date and amount of the credit. That said, I have always found individual credits to be easier to keep track of.

I would credit each item individually, in the off-chance that only a portion of the dispute is approved. Looks much cleaner.

I do the same as Anon except if the items are all going to be charged off, and then I will allow the credit to be a bulk amount. It doesn't happen often.

We always did lump sum. In your example, we would issue one $400 provisional credit. In the event one of those $100 came back as authorized, but the other three were deemed unauthorized, our final credit letter would state the debit of $100, the reason, and final for the $300. Never had an issue.

I couldn't imagine doing individual credits on some disputes. We've had some with 30, 40, 50+ transactions usually in the $0.99 micro-transaction category. That would have driven me insane!
