I hope everyone in the path is safe and sound. There has been much flooding and downed trees here in Georgia, especially in the areas around Valdosta, Brunswick, and Augusta. Appalachia is really hard hit, especially western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
So many of my friends and family impacted by this storm. They are all safe if without power for a while. My niece in Florida lost everything due to the storm surge that put 5 feet of water in her house. But she evacuated so she is alive and well - just having to deal with the mess left behind. We just got a lot of rain near Atlanta. None of the high winds and tornados anticipated. We can thank the shift east for that blessing.

It is mind-boggling the absolute devastation this storm brought. I have friends and family in FL, GA, SC, and NC. It's difficult to imagine the entire community around Lake Lure, NC gone - totally destroyed.

Far from Calif
The continued stories that come out of this storm are so heartbreaking, and now there's another headed to Florida. Prayers continuing for everyone impacted - it's mind-boggling. I know some of the bank trade associations are taking up donations, and there are the typical ones like Red Cross. How else can people who aren't there help?

Yeah, it is hard to know the bast way to assist from afar and the new storm looks really bad for St. Pete/Tampa. They are talking about an 8-12 storm surge. Peak storm surge from Helene was 7.2 in that area. Helene killed the most people in that area in history, even surpassing the 1921 hurricane and the population is 20 times the size now. Milton went from a 100mph storm this morning at 4am CDT to 150 mph at 8am CDT. I sure hope that dry air or wind shear weakens this storm before landfall or there is going to be an area that gets even more devastation than it has already experienced.

Up North
As a person wishing to help from afar, I took to Google to research charitable organizations that are assisting in the areas affected by Helene. I picked a couple and am still pondering others. I haven't narrowed down how to get funds to the mule teams working in North Carolina yet but I will!

It is heartbreaking to see the devastation and now knowing that another hurricane is set to hit this week.
