In the State of PA, can a bank notify the Adult Protective Services without the customers consent when they suspect elder financial abuse? Also, if a bank notifies local law enforcement of a verified financial crime involving an older customer, are there privacy issues to consider if the customer did not want to report it?

We call Elder Abuse and let them handle the interaction. They don't get back to us and give us an update on the case. We at least know we are trying to protect our customer.

With calling the local police, we have done that after we have filed a SAR for Elder Abuse. We can then share the info with the local police with some protection from the SAR. It doesn't mean your customer won't be upset, but sometimes hearing it from someone else (i.e. the police) that they are a victim of a crime, they might take the information better and listen to them. Sometimes we can't stop our customers from being victims.
