An IRA customer’s son wants to distribute money from his mother’s account. We have a copy of durable POA papers. It states that he is able to conduct any banking transactions for her.

However, I thought I saw something years ago that suggested (perhaps required?) that POA papers specifically state the POA can initiate IRA transactions. Does this seem reasonable?

Or are the durable POA papers sufficient?

It depends on your state law. In Texas, if it's a statutory durable POA and says it covers Banking Transactions, it covers all banking transactions. We would get the son to sign an affidavit before each withdrawal that the POA has not been revoked for any reason, and to indemnify us against loss.
