Are many bankers who have been swept up in the Poker Craze that is going on? I have played poker for years but always had trouble getting more than the normal 6 guys to show up for poker night. In the last year or 2 I have been holding 20 player tourneys at my house and have had to turn people away. How do you all feel about the glut of poker on tv nowadays. You cannot turn the channel without seeing some type of poker on.

I love it - I ahve always been a 7 stud player, but I am liking Hold Em. I have gone to Vegas once a year for about 25 years, and the majority of time I am in the poker room. I like it because you can play all night, meet very interesting people, and not lose a lot of money if you play the normal stakes tables. I could sit at a blackjack table and lose $200 in 10 minutes, but I could sit at the poker table from 8pm - 4am and won or lose the same amount. I love the game.

I used to not like poker. Everyone I know would think that they are in the movie Rounders. I thought that watching poker on TV was just one step above watching mini-golf on ESPN 2.
Celebrity Poker definitely changed my mind. It was funny, and I learned a lot about betting strategy and stuff, and now it has me watching all the other poker on TV. I still don't play, but after I watch a lot more and learn stuff I will probably start.

I agree with the ESPN comment but the Celebrity poker is really bad. I tivo everything poker but sometimes it is horrible to watch. They do not even know how to play. You would think that Phil Gordon could teach them at least the basics. I really enjoyed the Turning Stone tourney which was televised in its entirety(the final 6) You got to see ever hand and see how these players handled ever situation.

The FUN of the celebrity poker is the fact that they ARENT professional poker players, they are just like me. They are having fun and raising money for charity. It is more about the jokes and smiles and friendships and *gasp* the charities than it is about poker... AND I LIKE IT THAT WAY!

I agree with you anon - the Bravo poker I referred to was not meant to be celebrity - they have regular poker too. I do not like watching the celebrity poker, but there are some celebrities who do know how to play.

I am sorry but it is not fun to watch "just because they are celebreties" I would rather watch unknowns who know that having 2 suited cards in your hand to start does not automatically mean you are calling until the river. (you only have a 30% chance of making your flush and then you might lose to a higher flush. They have no clue what they are doing. That fact means that there is little to no skill in the winner of Celebrity poker showdown, only luck. Whoever gets the cards will win.

Some celebrities are actually good players; e.g. Ben affleck, Mr. Kotter, and James woods.

Doesn't anyone watch World Poker Tour on Travel Channel. I find this to be the most interesting, if you can get past Vince van Patten's cheesy name for every hand players are dealt.

The WPT is the best around. But since the new season has not started yet we tend to not think about it. Back on my rant about "Celebrity Poker" The WPT celebrity homegame from last week was HORRIBLE to watch. Gary Busey has no clue how to play poker. He is almost scary to see interact with the others. What ever happened to him?

When I was a kid, one of our family activities was playing poker with matchsticks, or toothpicks or something. We tried with M&M's or licorice, but my brother kept eating everyone's antes. I guess it's because of that - but poker is not fun anymore. It's just boring to me now. Not that I'm any great expert - it's just forever linked to a childhood pastime in my head.

It was fun, though, in college to play like the dumb girl wanting to play poker with the boys - AND CLEANING UP!!! They only let me play that once...

Gary Busey is clearly insane. Did anyone ever watch "I'm with Busey?"

I like celebrity poker cause they actually talk and goof around, and don't take things too seriously. Hank Azaria was my favorite (IMHO).

The odds of pulling a flush when dealt two suited cards are nowhere near 30%.

Okay, you convinced! I'm heading for Foxwoods Casino for a night of poker.

FYI, we have the two largest casinos in the world here in little Connecticut and already I'm lucky; they are only 40 minutes away.
