What is required to be on a civil subpoena duces tecum or a criminal subpena duces tecum in the way of court approvals? Is a copy of the subpoena/subpena sufficient? Does the court seal need to be on it? Can the attorney representing one of the parties involved sign it? Thanks for your help.

Karen -

Copies of subpoenas are fine, civil subpoenas can be issued by the attorney (no court seal needed) but I am not sure about criminal subpoenas. We check to make sure CCP section 1985.3 has been met and give notice to the customer ourselves.
