Is the world ready for another Certified Regulary Compliance Manager? Well -- the world (and the State of Oklahoma) just got one. I just found out I passed the exam I took in October. BankersOnline has been a Godsend to me in my compliance career and I look forward to many more rewarding moments. Thanks, guys!

Congratulations. That is a HUGE accomplishment. Maybe some day I'll get over my fear and attempt this myself.

OK...just as long as I don't have to wear a fez and ride in a mini car at the Compliance Day Parade!

I received a letter from the Institute of Certified Bankers. I took the exam on October 22 and they ask you to allow six to eight weeks for the results (while you hold your breath!). This was my second attempt at the exam. I took it the first time in April. It is only administered twice a year so I had to wait until October to retake the exam. The letter was addressed to Ginger Martin, CRCM. Yeah!!!

Congrats. This is a professional accomplishment you should be proud of. I hope you'll add CRCM to your BOL sig.

Congrats!!! I had been in compliance many years before I took it and really had to bone up on those regs that we don't use daily. That test is NO cakewalk...I consider it the compliance equivalent of taking the Bar Exam. Kudos to you for passing!

Thanks everyone! I really believe that if you are going to be the authority on something in your institution, it doesn't hurt to have the credentials to back it up. The recommendation by the Institute of Certified Bankers is that you take the exam in your fifth year as a compliance officer. It is an excellent recommendation. I took it in my third and passed because I studied night and day and stuck my nose into everything going on in the bank. I believe my boss said it best after I had informed him I had passed the exam -- "This is not only good for you, but this is very good for our bank."

I've thought about taking the CRCM exam. Is it a memorization-type test, or do you get to use reference material? I have such a varied background that I can't remember the exact details of all the regs, but I know where to look everything up.

It's been since 96 that I took the test, but back then it certainly was not a memorization test. There were a lot of application questions and if I remember correctly several essay questions.

Right on, OnTheEdge. It seemed to me that the exam was about one-third book knowledge and two-thirds on the job knowledge. Which is probably why they recommend you have five years of compliance under your belt. You have to live it! (And thanks, Anon. I remember you at the April test, too -- Duncan, OK. Congratulations!)

I finally got my notification today, eight days after Ginger got hers. Let me tell you, I was sweating it! I'm just so glad I don't have to take it again next spring.

Congrats. Did you use the ABA Online Test Prep? I was just wondering. If anyone has used the online Test Prep, was it helpful or is self-study the way to go?

Yes, I did use the ABA On-line Test Prep. I was disappointed because it used the same questions that were in the ABA "Reference Guide to Regulatory Compliance". (If you have not purchased that book, get it!) We begged our instructor to provide us with questions other than what was in the book and she did provide several that were of help. The Kirchman Big Orange book was a help, also.
