I spoke to Jim this morning and the news is a little more encouraging. His wife's pancreas enzymes are returning to normal, which means that the original source of the problem (the pancreatitis) is subsiding. Now, the challenge is to get the other organs to come back. Her blood pressure is marginal. It is very low and they are bolstering it as possible with medication. She has accumulated 40 pounds of fluid because her system is not able to eliminate it. They are going to start dialysis this morning to get some of the toxins out of her body. They are going to do the slow kind -- over a period of 36 hours, because it is less stressful on the system, but they will have to administer blood thinners and those pose risks of their own.

She is still on a ventilator and heavily sedated. The next 36 hours will be critical as they work on getting her other organs functional.

Jim has read and printed out this thread and appreciates the prayers and support.

I spoke with Jim's Mom a few minutes ago and there is little to report. As mentioned, his wife's pancreatic functions are improving, but there is no parallel progress in the functioning of her other organs. His Mother said they have appreciated all the prayers and support they have received and asked that we keep them in our thoughts.
