XYZ Inc pays me for services that I completed for them. The check they issue is to "Scott Crafts - Kara Scott." May I deposit the check into my personal account? I do not have a business account and the company will not issue a check made payable to only me for accounting purposes.

I've read a few different things on bankers online that seem to contradict each other...so, I'm stuck!

Kara, Scotts Crafts can be considered to not be a Fictious Name as it has your name in the title. Theorefore no fictious name statement should be required.

You can deposit the check into a personal account but I'm afraid you will find a lot of bankers who automatically believe any check payable to a busines requires a busines account.

I would endorse the check Scotts Crafts by Kara Scott and try and deposit it

You might consider changing your account to "Kara Scott doing business as (DBA) Scotts Crafts" which should allow you to deposit in both names.

If this is just an ocassional occurance and the bank knows you, they just may go ahead and accept it.

I say the above but its going to come down to what your banks procedures are.
