Eight people have viewed this, but only 2 have responded that they are from Texas. Who are these other people? Anonymous Texas compliance officer lurkers? Or spies from the other 49 states who just HAVE to know what going on in Texas?

But for compliance purposes you work with Texas laws, right? If so, that makes you from Texas for purposes of this forum.

OK, OK - I'll be a Texan for that purpose!

Actually, ya'll aren't nearly as bad as I've heard all my life! And yes, I've said ya'll all my life.

I was disappointed to hear that New Jersey boy Chris Simms, who has been in Texas 4 years now, refuses to say "ya'll." He even refused to say the word in an interview where all he was doing was saying that he refused to say the word. So, he calls all those corn fed Texas boys "you guys" or "youse guys." With an attitude like that, UT may have to wait for their newest freshman phenom QB to get them that elusive national championship.

Calling Vicky a scum--be careful, they may shut this thread down.

What's that saying, "there are two kinds of people, Texans and those who wanna be". Or, "I'm not a native Texan, but I got here as fast as I could." You are duly counted and welcomed EGB .

FYI
SCUM
1 Extraneous matter or impurities risen to or formed on the surface of a liquid often as a foul filmy covering.
2.The scoria of metals in a molten state.
3.A slimy film on a solid or gelatinous object.
4.Refuse
5.A low, vile, or worthless person or group of people

Doesn't definition number 5 describe a person who is on vacation when you're not? Sounds correct to me....

I have been informed that the correct spelling of y'all is just that, not ya'll because it is a contraction for "you all." Do youse guys agree?

Oh good, I couldn't figure out a polite way to say that to you!! Yes, that is correct, it's a contraction for you all. (Hey, I may be from the District, but my people are from Shelby AL and Charleston.) And of course we all ("w'all"??) know it's never used to refer to just one person. And the possessive is y'all's. I know Y'ALL know this, it's just for the edification of any Yankees or others who might be reading this.

We're opening our first branch in TX soon - in Plano/Frisco. Does that count? I'm taking my own 'crash' course in TX real estate lending compliance right now! Y'all know what I mean. Correction: that should be 'all y'all', right?

I believe Ken is correct. My Texican English tells me the plural of 'y'all" is "all y'all". As in "All y'all come get your ice tea and chicken fried steak". (Oh, lunch time.)

The mark of a good restaurant in Texas: chicken fried steak is on the menu, no matter what else is.

The mark of a good restaurant in New Mexico: at least one menu item comes with optional green chile.
