On behalf of BOL, I'd like to welcome you to the HR Forum. Mary Beth Guard and I have been considering this idea for a while, and I'm honored that she has asked me to be the moderator for the Forum.
HR has certainly changed over the years. I first began my career in HR in the late 70s (OK, I started when I was 12 years old...) for a regional bank in training and development. To this day, training is my true love, but with this new technology of "e-learning," even that field has changed a lot!
I remember when HR was called Personnel, and we were responsible for picnics, payroll and serving in an Ann Landers role. Today's HR professional often has a seat at the strategic management table, and his/her functions are fully integrated with those of the rest of the bank.
I spent 19 years in banking, with the regional bank I mentioned, and the Federal Reserve Bank System. I've learned a lot about HR, and continue to serve clients in that area. In my experience, HR often gets put on the "back burner" until there is a crisis, so I hope this forum helps us keep the issues at the forefront, at a level that's relatively easy to solve the problem!
I look forward to working with everyone!
