In your Weekly Banker Briefing we now have tips on using BOL. These were derived from common questions. The latest is on how to print or email a thread.

Are you finding these helpful, yes, no, or didn't know they were there?

Andy, I usually just click on the Compliance Section, but thanks for the heads up!

Andy, I didn't know the tips were there. I'll take a second look at today's email. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up Andy. I, like Devil Queen, just clicked on the first link and then work my way through the Guru sections. I didn't read the email and had to dig it out of the delete file.

I already knew how to email and print, but look forward to future tips and I'm always learning new things here at BOL.

Question: There is a thread I want to keep and send to others. How can I print it and how can I email it?

Answer: If you scroll to the bottom of a thread there is a "Print Topic" option. Clicking on that opens a new browser window and reformats the page. You'll have the name and avatar on the left and their comments in a box on the right. This makes reading easier. In your browser, such as Internet Explorer, you can also go to the upper commands, File, Send, Page by Email, and send this without all the ads and heading graphics.

You can also email any post in a Thread by clicking the "email post" icon at the right of the "Post Extras" legend at the bottom of each post. Once you complete the information in the window that opens, an email! will be sent that includes a link to the post in a "threaded" view. That means the individual post will be displayed, but the recipient will be able to link to the rest of the thread to obtain the context for the post.

Glad I could help. Has anyone ever told you, you look like a Spy vs. Spy guy in disguise at Wal Mart?

Thanks for the "Print Topic" tip. I too missed the tip in the Weekly Briefing, and had already deleted it. Too much to do, not enough time. I will try not to miss the next tip.

There are often Threads that I would like printed but sometimes the far right cuts off with the ads on the left.

I knew about the email option, but as I am the only CRA officer, the whole department really, I don't have anyone to email them to.

I have to echo Rie A's thought, thanks for the info. I have shared a post or two with my compliance committee in the past and this will make it so much easier (and cleaner )

Andy, I just wanted you to know that I've used this week's tip several times already. When there is a thread that I want to use for reference material, I email it to myself and then I move it to a personal folder on Outlook that's been labeled BOL Threads. This will give me some quick information on certain subjects.

That is such a good organizational idea LoisLane, you don't mind if I steal it do you?

Great tip Lois. And as you build that file set, make sure you use good Subject titles to make them recognizable. As my Compliance and other folder structures grew I wanted a better way to search for keywords and not just look at subject fields when I wanted info. Consider adding a Lookout Search bar. Microsoft has now bought this company but I think it is still freeware. It takes little space and is FAST on searches.

You can also just add the thread to your "Favorite Topic" list by clicking on the "favorite topic" link at the bottom of this page. Then, you create a library of those on your BOL Home Page. The added benefit of this is that you can receive an e-mail anytime someone adds a new post to that thread.

How do you get it to send an email? I've only had it say NEW on "my home"? Email might be helpful!

As Andy would say, "Kewl".

Thanks, Dave!

FYI, Dave gave you Tip No. 1. I've already written 17 of these. so don't think I copied Dave.

Let me ask you this. If we did screen capture videos so you would actually see the tip in action, when possible, would that be a) more helpful, b) somewhat helpful - I may watch it or c) who cares - I wouldn't watch when I can read > step > by > step > instructions? Be honest because we don't want to waste time if these have marginal or less value.

I'm a visual learner who is technologically challenged & suffers from computer anxiety I personally would get the hang of things faster if I could watch it in action. I'd need to have the instructions to refer back to though!

Visual is nice...and I like the tip about printing. I used to print each reply using the printer icon, now I can do it the right way. I guess I never looked on the bottom!

The tip in today's weekly briefing is pretty basic, but may be new to some of you. I am interested in what you think. On more difficult things this technique will be very helpful. I am always one who'd rather see it than read it.
