Apparently comedies are not allowed on the list...I don't see a single one...(and No, Finding Nemo doesn't count! )

I count Miller's Crossing (1990) as a comedy. "Tom...look in your heart..."
Also few from the past 10 years. What about 'Seven'? Or going back a few years - 'Deliverance'?

I've seen 21 of these movies - but I don't like how they combine The Lord of The Rings and the Godfather as one movie. that's cheating!!!

The World According to Garp is one of my all-time favorites. Best 100? I don't know about that but still a great movie.
I know that many are up in arms that Gone With the Wind isn't on the list.

I would not consider either of those movies a top 100. Not even close.

Yes, I wondered about Gone With the Wind as well.

Apparently, this list is not compiled with Academy Awards as a primary criteria. Several big winners are not on the list: "All About Eve" and "Titanic" come to mind!

* Anyone know how the list was compiled? My guess is from the input of very artsy, Cannes type folks, based on the emphasis on movies that were not popular and the afore-mentioned dearth of comedies. * List appears to be chronologically skewed- 46 are from the 40s, 50s and 60s, and only 31 from the 70s, 80s and 90s. * I don't watch too many movies, but I haven't even heard of half of those on the list that were made in the 80s and 90s! * Isn't Citizen Kane the top movie of all time on some lists, and it didn't even make the top 100 on this list

I think History of the World, Part 1, should be on there, too. And, how about the Pink Panther movies? They were great, too!

By my count, I've seen 49 of the 100. I've got some work to do.

Yes it did.

Two Time magazine critics chose them. They have an MP3 on the website that explains, but I have not listened.

Citizen Kane is on the list, but I don't know how "To Kill A Mockingbird" is not. This is probably my favorite movie of all time.

Roger Ebert once said "A great movie is one that you could not live without ever seeing again".
That totally changed my outlook on movies.

possibly it should be called the greatest 100 movies made in america? And what list could be complete without Breaking Away? Forrest Gump? Platoon? Stagecoach (stagecoach was the first movie ever that went between two different scenes at the same time. prior to that, films were strictly in chronological order...) Puh-leeze.

Well, anyone can see that this list is baloney. It does not include "The Great Escape." These film critics. I say we put 'em in a plane and drop 'em over Berlin!

Taking that approach the list becomes very short, does it not?

Absolute classics! How about adding Young Frankenstein?
