Go to http://music.yahoo.com/ and search on her name. I was curious & watched the Holloback video and then another one. Not my generation, but I thought both were entertaining and enjoyed them. The lyrics were largely unintelligible so I looked them up. They just have the same effect on me as when Eddie Murphy "fouls" a hilarious comedy routine by repeating the f word so much you're tired of hearing it - the vulgarity doesn't offend me, I just think it's childish. Kick it.

Right Ken. Vulgarity used to be used sparingly for shock value. Now it is used so much, the shock is gone, but the disgust remains.
Remmember the movie "Scarface" with Al Pacino? If they removed all the times they said the "f" word, they could have shortened the movie by an hour.

Gwen was tolerable in No Doubt, and now hearing her songs on the radio is pure torture. "Hollaback Girl" might be the dumbest song ever. I say might because her song "Rich Girls" is right up there with it. I'd say it's a toss up. In case you've never heard of "Rich Girls," here's a sample of the chorus...
"If I was a rich girl,
LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA
Then I'd have all the money in the world,
If I was a rich girl..."
I mean, come on...can we be serious for a second and listen to this garbage? Not only does the beat/song make me want to play in traffic, but the words make me dumber for having heard them...

I think what is a holla back girl has turned into one of the most asked questions here lately. I just walk around work and randomly ask people for the hell of it what the heck it is. Guess what? No one knows for sure!

Actually it is cyclical. Ever notice the amount of swearing they used back in the wild west. (see Deadwood) The research is not my own but Entertainment weekly do a story on the show and explained the accuracy of the language during that time. Much better than I could explain it.

I think that her (it's probably No Doubt's) remake of "It's my Life" is the best remake done in decades. Generally, I like her songs, but then, I'm not so much into lyrics.

My cousins 5 year old daughter swears they are saying "Harlem Bad Girl". We tried to tell her different but she thinks she is right. Oh well, it's cut to her sing it.

I thought Eric Clapton's song Layla was really Danger. I didn't find out he was really saying Layla until one day I was singing it - really belting it out - and my husband said, what in the world are you saying? And then I had to hear the whole story about how he was singing about George Harrison's wife and that they both loved her and yada, yada. Hey, I say if you're singing about someone else's wife you should be saying Danger!

I did a search to find out what the lyrics to this song were about. I have a 16 yr old daughter who did not know either. I thought it was funny that I found this on a bankers web site. I was scratching my head thinking why is the search engine returning bankers on line for a song search. Guess you guys have lives too. Any way the explination makes sense (a little) but why the cheerleaders, highschool band etc... and bananas mean she likes something? What does she like? It reminds me of the complex lyrics of the old days "lolly pop lolly pop oh lolly ...."

Because it allowed Ms. Stefani the chance to prance around in microscopic cheerleading outfits in the video. I mean, those are in the Top 10 fantasy costumes as far as male preferences are concerned. Possibly female preferences, too, for all I know.
She certainly did rock a majorette's jacket in the video, I'll give her that much.
But vocally she sounds really terrible in the song. I'd have to go all Cowell on her if I were to be critiquing her singing style.
