Pop Culture is Filth

It is now completely degenerate. Why do you never hear anyone humming a current pop song any more? Because none of them is hummable, or even worth bothering to remember. What is the main topic on TV sitcoms and "dramedies"? You know what. Why do you stand in the aisle in Blockbuster muttering to yourself: "There isn't a single damn movie in here I want to watch"? Because Hollywood produces nothing but crap, crap, crap.

Do you listen to the music that your children are more than likely listening to? For example, the very popular 50 Cent "Candy Shop" goes like this:

50 Cent - Candy Shop Lyrics
(feat. Olivia)

[Intro: 50 Cent]
Yeah...
Uh huh
So seductive

[Chorus: 50 Cent & Olivia]
[50 Cent]
I take you to the candy shop
I'll let you lick the lollypop
Go 'head girl, don't you stop
Keep going 'til you hit the spot (woah)
[Olivia]
I'll take you to the candy shop
Boy one taste of what I got
I'll have you spending all you got
Keep going 'til you hit the spot (woah)

[Verse 1: 50 Cent]
You can have it your way, how do you want it
You gon' back that thing up or should i push up on it
Temperature rising, okay lets go to the next level
Dance floor jam packed, hot as a teakettle
I'll break it down for you now, baby it's simple
If you be a nympho, I'll be a nympho
In the hotel or in the back of the rental
On the beach or in the park, it's whatever you into
Got the magic stick, I'm the love doctor
Have your friends teasin you 'bout how sprung I gotcha
Wanna show me how you work it baby, no problem
Get on top then get to bouncing round like a low rider
I'm a seasons vet when it come to this shit
After you work up a sweat you can play with the stick
I'm tryin to explain baby the best way I can
I melt in your mouth girl, not in your hands (ha ha)

[Chorus]

[Bridge: 50 Cent & Olivia]
Girl what we do (what we do)
And where we do (and where we do)
The things we do (things we do)
Are just between me and you (oh yeah)

[Verse 2: 50 Cent]
Give it to me baby, nice and slow
Climb on top, ride like you in the rodeo
You ain't never heard a sound like this before
Cause I ain't never put it down like this
Soon as I come through the door she get to pullin on my zipper
It's like it's a race who can get undressed quicker
Isn't it ironic how erotic it is to watch em in thongs
Had me thinking 'bout that ass after I'm gone
I touch the right spot at the right time
Lights on or lights off, she like it from behind
So seductive, you should see the way she wind
Her hips in slow-mo on the floor when we grind
As Long as she ain't stoppin, homie I aint stoppin
Drippin wet with sweat man its on and popping
All my champagne campaign, bottle after bottle its on
And we gon' sip til every bubble in every bottle is gone

There's too much out there to speak in such generalities. I do think the species as a whole is dumbing down a bit. Most studies show that more educated people are having less babies and are not even replacing themselves. Not that education is an indicator of intelligence, but it is a fairly significant issue.

There's a lot of good music out there. It's just not as commercial. My favorite station is 88.5 WXPN out of Philadelphia. If you're interested, you can listen to it at www.xpn.org. They are listener supported radio and play a very ecclectic brand of music. They're currently having a fund drive, but usually they are 90% music and NO COMMERCIALS.

Me, too. Only mine is on cassette, so I am an even bigger loser than you, Mr. Peepers!

I agree with you, however, it sounds like she was screening a CD that her child had... a good move these days. There are several songs that I like that I would not let my kids listen to until they are older... any Violent Femmes fans out there? By the way, I saw Bobby Brown in concert "back in the day." I had his album on cassette and a couple of years ago had to get the CD. Wouldn't want to be married to him or have his kids, but I like his music.

Hahaha! A first for me: I have never been called a "fool" and a "pervert" in the same sentence.

Considering the source, I'd take that as the highest compliment!

X, do you tear the Song of Songs / Song of Solomon out of the Bible? There's some VERY racy verse in that piece of literature...

Remember when America's values were being offended by Elvis and those suggestive shaking hips of his? I'm so glad we have progressed beyond that.

Here's some advice:

Quote:

Accept certain inalienable truths: Prices will rise. Politicians will philander. You too, will get old, and when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders. - Mary Smich

...and contrary to popular belief, the sky ISN'T falling.

Works for me

I wonder how that would look on my tombstone..... here rests Mr. Peepers, he was a perverted loser who acted like a fool....and he owned a Bobby Brown CD.
