Our bank has been discussing how to handle verification for non-US persons. We plan on verifying employment or student status but don't yet know how or if we will accept applications for others. How are other institutions planning on handling non-US persons?

We are medium sized privately held bank and we do not deal with many Non-US persons. The ones we do deal with are primarily students, but they tend to go with the larger banks, and the ones we do deal with we require a copy of their student ID, Student Visa and Passport. For the non-students Non-US persons we require a copy of their passport, work-visa, green-card etc. We've done this even before CIP.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I might find samples of "student visa's, green cards, work visa's". etc?

I did a Google search and came up with this site which has info and a not so great image of a Visa. It is B&W but I assume there is actually color on the real ones.

I wonder if the manuals with drivers license examples will be including these or if there are separate manuals with key data and descriptions?

Does anyone know of a source to find out what type of identifications are issued by the different countries? Not referring to these people coming to the US.

I am also in St. Louis and my bank has offices close to where alot of Bosnian and other war refugees have settled. I would say 95% of these non US citizens have gotten drivers licenses or state ID cards. If they are going to live here, they know they need these forms of ID in our society. If they are only visiting, they don't open bank accounts.

You need to determine the citizenship and residency of each individual. One of the way to do that is by documenting the passport. The Passports of the World website is one way to look to see if the passport appears to be legit.

Thanks Andy and Brenda for great links. When I went to Andy's link, it was a pleasant surprize to be linked to my Alma Mater, San Jose State University.

If anyone uses the Drivers License Guide Co. - I.D. Checking Guide, there is a section on Federal Documents which has many of the cards mentioned.

Hopefully, they are covered by NAFTA.

At least they sound reputable, not like the Conch Republic or Sealand.
