Any suggestions for a "girls get-a-way weekend"??? A couple of times a year, me and some friends get together and take a "girls trip"... we are struggling for ideas. We have been to the Biltmore in North Carolina, Gatlinburg in Tennesse and Las Vegas. We have been thinking about New York City, but...a little hesitant. Any ideas out there? Considering Tenn & NC aren't too far from home, we could drive there. Any ideas? (we're not into the beach scene)

You can come to my place

What do you call fun? Usually for me, summer means Dewey Beach, Delaware. But with no beach scene...Have you thought about Canada?

We are trying to plan a similar weekend- but further west. We want to do something that is driving distance- NM, AZ, UT, or CO are all viable options. Unfortunatly, we keep running into the problem of every place being booked.

Ohhh If I was planning a Girls Weekend we would go to Colorado Springs. But that is way too far for you Anon. I have only been to Baltimore once and Penn. once, so I am no help. Sorry

What do you suggest in Colorado Springs? It's a bit far but not unreasonable.

I'm not a girl, but it has to be the Broadmoor! Pike's Peak, golf, tennis, spa, and a world class brunch on Sunday morning.

Newport, R.I. is beautiful! The Cape, Martha's vineyard, Nantucet in addition to tours of oppulent mansions, including several Vanderbilt mansions, the childhood home of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the oldest tavern in America, the White Horse Inn, the cliff walk, the dinner train ride, and so much more. I am from the midwest, but viseted there once and fell in love with the place.

I would go with New Orleans or Memphis. My husband and I spent Memorial Day weekend in Memphis and had a great time, lots to see and do. And, if your an Elvis fan, Graceland is a must. Then again, New Orleans is always fun.

Did you ever consider Charleston,SC? My wife and her school teacher friends take monthly trips to the historic city. SO much to see and do. Tour the "Battery" area and all the old historic homes on "RainBow Row". The ole historical "Slave Market" area. All the shops and galleries on Meeting and Dock streets. Take in a show at the Dock Street Theatre. Visit the oldest Baptist church in the downtown area. Loads of restaurants and accomodations. Easily accessible from I-95/I-77/I-40 to
I-26. Use a search engine for Charleston SC. If you really want to see the south...take in Charleston sister city...Savannah Ga also!

Agree with New Orleans, Memphis, Charleston or Savannah! We went to New Orleans for my bachelorette weekend and it was SOOOO much fun (and no, we didn't spend all weekend drinking.) Or what about the Mississippi Delta. Or Panama City, Destin, or the Gulf Shore.

Actually, I'd probably do a spa weekend. Some friends and I are talking about doing the one in Hershey PA. Yes, it's all chocolate.

Any details about what's to do in Memphis? That wouldn't be too far and we wouldn't have to spend too long driving. Just hate to spend the whole weekend in the car. Memphis details please....

In Memphis you can...view a AAA baseball game in a beautiful stadium...bar hop on Beale...visit the ducks at the Peabody...go to a Casino at Tunica, MS (just south)...

Newport is awesome so I second that but why don't you try Gary, Indiana? Beautiful this time of the year (actually it's a gem all year round)

MOML always goes on a fishing trip with the boys. He suggested years ago that I get together with the girls. Except...they could never get away because of their kids. Now the kids are grown, all they want to do is go on shopping trips. Sorry, I was born without the "desire to shop" gene.

Once, four of us almost went to Europe. I went so far as to get a passport. Then one by one, they backed out cause it cost too much. I love my friends, but, sorry to say, they are not dependable. I'd rather go on the fishing trip with the boys.

Beale Street has plenty of blues, beer and BBQ to keep you busy for a while. There are several tours of the city you can take as well as a steamboat cruise, but I recommend you "Ride the Duck". It takes just over an hour and you'll see some of the city and a little of the Mississippi River. Eat at Rendevous, they have dry BBQ ribs that are wonderful, but don't be in a hurry if you go because it's usually very crowded. The Memphis Redbirds stadium is beautiful, we didn't have time to see a game, but will plan to on the next visit. Graceland is worth the time and money to tour, I didn't realize how much of an Elvis fan I was until I took a tour about two years ago.
There's also the Civil Rights museum, Mud River Park and museum, and as mentioned, Tunica is a short drive from Memphis.

There's a lot to do in Myrtle Beach that is not beach-related. You might try googling "tourism and convention" in some of the cities and see what events are coming up. Chicago has quite a few food and wine festivals. One event I stumbled on a few years ago was the Disney World International Food and Wine Festival at Epcot. It is a blast. First 2 weeks of Nov. so not too crowded then.

On your side of the continent, I'd recommend Scottsdale, Sedona, San Diego, Santa Fe, Cabo San Lucas.

Since the FEDEX Forum is complete the Pyramid is empty. I think there has been talk about even closing it or tearing it down.
