Common Sense: Did Sept. 11 Commission choose To Dismiss Able Danger?

The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States -- otherwise known as the Sept. 11 Commission -- was supposed to suggest changes in law and policy to help protect us from terror attacks. To make such recommendations, the commission needed to discern what happened. Regrettably, the commission's public hearings devolved into a political circus instead of a fact-finding exercise. Instead of solving the numerous riddles of how 19 terrorists murdered nearly 3,000 Americans, apologists for the Clinton administration used the hearings to deflect blame -- and point to the culpability of the Bush administration.........

Not to fan the fire (but why would I be posting on this particular thread if I didn't want to), but I have to say that the executive branch is ultimately responsible for the things that happen on their watch. It is their responsibility to deal with and interpret the information they receive on their watch. People need to take off their political team jerseys and bumperstickers and try to deal with issues in an objective way.

Yeah, so if the Clinton adminstration's DOD refused to allow the findings of this "Able Danger" group to be used by counter-terrorism folks at the FBI, that's something we ought to know, right? I'll be the first to say that we don't know all the facts here and neither administration was focused on combating terror pre-9/11, but the reaction of the 9/11 commission to this had been less than inspiring.

You can't just say the attacks happened in 2001 so Bush has to be the one responsible, Ron. That type of thinking is done not by people who wear team jerseys, but by people that have the team logo tatooed on their bicep.

Woah! If that's the case J, I will be happy to criticize the Clinton administration too. My point is more about making accountability about accountability instead of turning the issues into partisan melodramas where nothing gets accomplished as it should. In this instance, we have information given to an administration that made the choice to disregard or minimize it. Instead of criticizing those people to help them improve where we are at, we become partisan and turn it into a game of subterfuge.

I think the precise question is, did the 9/11 commission do exactly that?

There is probably a lot of truth to that, but I think they did as well as THEY could have given the circumstances.

ps how do you bold and italicize words without quoting?

That Guy, I will admit that I have some liberal tendencies, but if you read my posts I try to be very objective. I will keep saying that I am a bit of a centrist. I need my own party.

To bold or italicize you would type "[-]" before your word and "[/-]" after, replacing the "-" with a "b" to bold or an "i" for italics (and disregarding the quotation marks).

I wasn't meaning to comment on your politics, just the fact that I haven't ever noticed you and J agreeing on something. And for it to happen at almostthe same time X posts something with a negative statement about conservatives, well to quote anon above, it was spooky.
