Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been posting very much lately. My daughter (Amanda) has been in and out of hospital for the past 3 weeks. She's in a lot of pain and passing blood.

Before Labor Day, she spent 4 days in the hospital and was diagnosed with Chron's Disease. Over the next 10 days her bleeding didn't stop and the pain increased. The doctor increased her medications twice and finally called her back to the hospital. We went back last Wednesday (14th) and she has been there since.

Yesterday, the doctor told Amanda that it would probably be 5 more days MINIMUM. The problem is the amount of medication that she needs to control the disease and make her life as normal as possible. They are trying to "tweak" her medicines to get the right balance. They feel that they are making improvement, but each "tweak" takes about 3 days before they know if it is correct, so it is slow going.

This was very depressing to Amanda as she had thought (hoped) she would be coming home today. She is a senior in high school. Although she is a very good student, she has missed a lot of school (including the Homecoming events last Friday) and this has put a lot of stress on her. The doctor explained to her that these medicines were very powerful and too much can have very severe side effects down the road. He said "a week longer now is very much worth it compared to the problems you may encounter 10 to 20 years from now".

Please pray for Amanda – that she would have the tenacity to continue and not be depressed. Stress is exactly the opposite of what she needs right now. Please also pray for our family: Lisa (my wife) & I are passing off trying to be with our two sons and with Amanda on rotating shifts. This has put a strain on our relationship. The boys are also affected by all of this. I'm also trying to run a business and meet other demands - none of which are as important, but still need attention, if possible.

Thank you for your prayers!

Many prayers from South Georgia, David. Hang tuff and think of Becca and the Bear and the strength they have received thru the folks at BOL and Magic Banker too!

Your daughter is at such an tender and emotional age. She will need much determination, but her body is young and that is definitely on her side. Thoughts will be with each and every one of your family members.

Dave, I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter. It is just awful to have to deal with a serious illness of a child. You and your family have had more than your share of health problems recently.

Please know that we are all thinking of you and are sending many good wishes your way.

Oh, David, my heart goes out to all of you. Prayers for a speedy recovery from this flairup and that the doctors will be able to discover what she needs to keep it under control.

Best of luck, David, to you and your family.

The good news is that they can keep it under control with diet and medication. I used to work with a guy (about 20 years ago)who had it, and he would have a bout very, very, rarely. And, he looked great when I ran into to him a couple of years ago.

Hang in there.

A girl I work with has Crohn's disease, but hers is not that severe at this time. She can control it with diet and also takes Omega-3 fatty acids, B-vitamins, zinc and acidophilus with each meal. These supplements dimnish the frequency and duration of flare ups.

Your daughter is in my thoughts and prayers.

Dave,

I'll be keeping your daughter in my thoughts and prayers -- I have a 17 year old senior as well and I can only imagine what she must be going through. This is suppose to be an exciting year and she is missing parts of it. Hopefully, her friends are there for her and will help pull her through.

David:

I am sorry to hear about the strain on your family - but you will be closer once you get through it.

I pray for Amanda's strength, both physical and emotional. As teens, we stress over so many things. If it wasn't this, it'd be something else. Remind her to listen to the doctor -that this short time now will be important to her in the future.

I will pray for your sons' patience and understanding. I will pray for your (and your wife's) strength and wisdom, as you will be forwarding it to Amanda on each visit -through your hand-holding, comforting words, hugs, and kisses. She will get her additional needed strength through you. Your comfort will make her healing that much quicker. That is definitely the truth. (When I was in the hospital myself, it was my parents' daily visits that kept me going some days. Often, it felt like I was using direct strength received from my mother's hand.)

I will continue to pray for your family. Everything will be okay. You may not see the light at the end of the tunnel, but it's there.

Where the heart is
David - Your daughter, you and your family are in my prayers.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress:
my G-d; in him will I trust.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler,
and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings
shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night;
nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness;
nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand;
but it shall not come nigh thee.

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold
and see the reward of the wicked.

Because thou hast made the Lord,
which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

There shall no evil befall thee,
neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

For he shall give his angels charge over thee,
to keep thee in all thy ways.

They shall bear thee up in their hands,
lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder:
the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him:
I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him:
I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

With long life will I satisfy him,
and shew him my salvation.
