New Depeche Mode - picked it up Sunday
Borrowed this from a co-worker. I thought it was good, better than their last one (which I didn’t bother buying).
Listening to Violater now, a true Depeche Mode classic.
Later, I think I’ll listen to some Rush (Power Windows and Grace Under Pressure).

sad, when depeche was first starting I was a youngster and not into what was called "techno." I passed up 3 chances to see them in the early-mid 80s. What a fool I was. Been hooked for about the past 5 years on them...and they never come anywhere around here.

I missed out on the Depeche Mode scene mostly because I’ve mainly been into hard rock. A roommate of mine in college was into them and it was then I learned to really like their earlier stuff up to Songs of Faith and Devotion (I think that’s what it’s called) and Ultra. This is stuff I swore I wouldn’t listen to but I now really like it. It’s far from Iron Maiden, Tool and Megadeth. Maybe it’s age, I’ve also been listening to more early Elton John.

How does it compare to their 80's stuff? I was really into them in the late 80's (Catching up with Depeche Mode era) but am hesitant to get the new one since I haven't been following them in the last 10 or so years.

Not nearly as good as the 80’s stuff IMO.
There are a number of slower songs, it’s good, but it’s no Violator.

I made a Christmas cd last night, but I haven't been able to listen to it yet. It just doesn't seem like December yet.

Gladys Knight & the Pips Greatest Hits
Little Walters - Boss Blues Harmonica
Lynyrd Skynyrd - A self-made addendum to their Platinum & Gold best of CD that contains their best songs that are not on that disc.
Gary U.S. Bonds - Dedication
Gary U.S. Bonds - On the Line (These two Gary U.S. Bonds CDs are from the early 80s. Bruce Springsteen helped this 1960s soul singer make a comeback with these two albums. If you like Bruce, these two CDs are like a follow up to "The River" with the East Street Band as the back-up band and Bonds as the lead singer. Bruce wrote about half the songs and VanZandt wrote a couple. Bruce sings one duet and backup on some songs. Great stuff for soul fans and Bruce fans alike. Clarence Clemmons' sax is front and center on most of the songs.)
Stever Miller - Fly Like an Eagle
Bill Monroe - A 2-CD Compilation CD (I forget the name)
Authur Alexander's Greatest Hits (Great forgotten soul singer from the 60s. You may remember his songs the Beatles recorded: Anna and Soldier of Love. I highly recommend the Rhino Anthology if you like 60s soul music. He ended up driving a school bus. What a waste. He made a great comeback CD in the 90s and died soon after. There is also a tribute CD with lots of famous artists participating, but I've not heard it yet.)
