There's a plethora of remixed and redone music out there, from KMFDM's version of She Moves in Mysterious Ways, to Zeromancer's interpretation of Send Me an Angel. What are some of your favorites and why do you like them more than the original version? (I'm trying to put together a playlist for a party)

Pirate, I am afraid most of the remixes I have heard lately didn't do much remixing. They are sung and played exactly like the originals, the only exception being the different band.

Exceptions: Stevie Ray Vaughn's Voodoo Child. I love Hendrix, but I prefer Vaughn's rendition on this one. I also have two CDs: one is Stone Free A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix, which has numerous artist's versions of Hendrix classics, all very good. I can't remember the other's name, but it is a tribute to Led Zepplin, again with numerous artists doing their renditions. Only about half of these are good.

Thanks! Seriously, ANY redone or remixed songs are good!

Though I don't have the band names in my head right now, the soundtrack from "Not Another Teen Movie" has some great remixes on it. A few I like better than the originals. If you don't have the disc, it is pretty good.

The last one was me. I guess they would be cover's actually, not remixes, but I think the thread is covering both types.

There's a great compilation of covers called Rubiyhat (sp?), done by Elektra records some years back. It had some great covers; I have it on tape, and need to find it on CD. The examples I can think of right off are:

Gypsy Kings doing "Hotel California"
Faster Pussycat doing "You're so Vain"
Black Velvet Band doing "Werewolves of Dublin" (well, they're Irish, you didn't think they'd sing about London...)
Others that I've run across and love:

Crazy Backwards Alphabet doing "Sarayushka" (ZZ Top's La Grange translated into Russian).
Chrissie Hind (Pretenders) and Leslie West (Mountain) doing "The Stealer"
Diamanda Galas and John Paul Jones doing "Swing Low Sweet Chariot"
Melissa Etheridge doing "Refugee" (also her version of a Joan Armatrading song whose title escapes me at the moment.)

Paul Oakenfold did a song called Zoo York - It's a techno version of the Summer Overture that Clint Mansell and the Kronos Quartet did for the movie Ruquiem for a Dream. It's really good.

There's 'Word Up' by Korn
'Take On Me' by Ah Ha remixed by Reel Big Fish
'Imagine' by John Lennon remixed by A Perfect Circle. Actually A Perfect Circle release an album last November that was all covers except two songs. It was pretty good. I think it was called EMotive.
'Blue Monday' by New World Order remixed by Orgy
'Faith' by George Michael remixed by Limp Bizkit
'Love Song' by the Cure remixed by 311
'Close to Me' by the Cure remixed by The Get-up Kids
Those are just a few. I have more if you need them.

If you like John Hiatt, there's a great cover album called "Love Gets Strange" where the Neville Brothers, Katy Moffatt, Marshall Crenshaw and others do neat versions of John's songs. "We Ran" is one of my favorites.

I am going to have to go with Spivol on that one. If you have ever heard the Led version, you will realize that TOOL is one band with some seriously talented artists.

Don't forget the greatest cover band of them all...Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies!! Punk rockers from different punk bands get together and ALL they do are covers. They have like five albums out. Also Bowling for Soup have done a few covers that are really good, mainly Bryan Adams "Summer of '69".

That tap dancing was hilarious. I had no idea that Walken was that good at dancing until I saw that.

Have you seen "Things to do in Denver When You're Dead"?
