My dad is having surgery on his carotid artery tuesday (november 1st). Please keep him and my family in your prayers. He had a heart attack June 2004 induced while putting in a stint in an artery in the lower chamber of his heart. I am so scared but I hear this artery is much less risky because it's larger. Please keep up in your prayers. I am worried sick. Thank you and God Bless

Pulling people out of the ditc...
Anon - prayers are with you. My father had a heart attack 2 years ago, but thought it was indegestion and walked around for 1 1/2 years with significant damage. A physical in May of this year discovered it, and he went immediately into a triple-bypass. I'm happy to say that he is doing well.

It is amazing how/what the technology and surgeons can do these days. I'm sure he is in fine hands and will come out better than ever.

I will keep your Dad in my prayers. As with Happy's Dad my Brother had a heart condition and did not go to the Dr. Unfortunately he passed away in April of 2004 due to a 90% blockage. Be thankful that your Dad sought medical care as soon as he did.

I am very sorry to hear that. I know he's doing the right thing by having the surgery. I hope it goes well but I worry so much. It seems like this surgery isn't looked at as a 'big deal' in the medical field. I might be getting the wrong perception but that's how it seems.

I know how scary it can be. My father and my husband both had aortic valve replacements. Both would be dead right now if medicine were not as advanced as it is. But heart teams are amazing and I'm sure your father will be in great hands.

You and your father will be in my prayers, as well as his heart team.

Thank you everyone for all your thoughts and prayers. My dad's name is Eddie. His surgery will be sometime tomorrow. I've had so much anxiety this weekend that the doctor called me in some medicine. I've never had to take a 'pill' to try to calm me. This is the most scared I've ever been in my life. I know he's in good hands and this is a much larger artery than the one they stinted in his heart. The smaller the artery the greater the danger. I hear the carotid is rather large. I just want him to be okay and hopefully come home wednesday if everything goes well.

I wanted to let everyone know that my dad's (Eddie)surgery went well. They had to do a second catheterization on Wednesday and actually correct the artery with a stint. It was 90% blocked so he could have easily had a stroke. Thank God the doctor found it in time. Very little blood flow was getting to his brain on the one side. He's at home recovering. He still doesn't feel the greatest but he's been through a lot. He's in good spirits.
God bless all of you and thank you so much for your prayers. It felt nice and comforting knowing other people were praying for him.
