Regardless of what the baby is named - one should be proud of his or her heritage. I love the name Isabella - it is a soft, feminine name. Just my two cents worth.

Jane is a very plain name. Nothing wrong with it, just plain. I think a name says a lot about the person.. if your name is Jane.. then I think it means plain and very laid back.. that is all..

It's much better than some of the names out there. You know the ones.. Mercedes, Lexus, Volvo (Yes, I've met one), Shaniqua, and Jane.

What is wrong with Jane? I love that name. It is a family name in the woman on my mom's side.

So if you have a girl first you are done having kids so you don't chance having a second girl? Interesting.

Good luck with that. Hope they perfect genetic engineering by then.

ZGuy, what happens if you have 2 girls, before ever having a boy?? I mean, you really can't pick the gender of your offspring.

I know that, but I'm hoping in my arrogance and dreaming in a perfect world that I would get 3 boys in a row, and then a girl- to be daddy's spoiled girl
hey a guy can dream right?

LOL, I take it you don't have kids, or if you do you did not name them.

Well, I have an 11 year old step son (sort of), a 5 year old daughter, a 3 year old son, and a 1 year old son. Technically I have 3 boys and a girl. :P

I love the name Isabelle. I would name my daughter that someday, but my dog is named Belle. Can't name my kid after the dog.

I forgot after I named my son that my mom and dad had used his name as a dog name before.

I'm about to become a grandfather in January to a baby girl. Her parents want to name her Isabel, and my wife and I are somewhat concerned. Isable is a nice name but, since her parents are Filipino, we concerned that she'll always be thought of as a Filipino-American because of her name. If she were named Janice or Mary, or Lauren I think she'd be viewed not so much as an Asian. Any thoughts?

Are you embarrassed that the parents are Filipino? There is no way the child will be able to hide her Asian heritage. Let her display it proudly!

If the parents of your coming granchild are Filipino, doesn't that also make you Filipino? I say embrace your differences. If it's really that much of a concern for you (and you must have your reasons) use Isabel as the middle name. Friends of mine, who are German and Korean, named their child Sophie Young to cover both ethnicities. It's a nice compromise.

That is so funny. I wanted to name my daughther Chloe (after my grandmother), but my husbands cats name is Chloe...so we named her Morgan instead.

Why not change the cat's name?
