Does anyone know how a consumer can get their credit score for free other than applying for a loan and having the credit report pulled? I was like the consumers in thinking that on this "Free" annual credit report it would show it but have since learned costs them $5.95!!! Please advise if anyone has had any experience with this. Thank you!!

You are entitled to a free copy of your credit report from each of the credit reporting agencies. https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

If I remember correctly, I think they charge you if you want to know your credit score.

I agree with CSB1 - the report is free but it does not include the score. I am not aware of any free resource for credit scores (other than applying for credit secured by residential property which would trigger a credit score disclosure).

I pay one of my credit cards online and they give me my monthly score as a courtesy for using their online service.

If you sign up for a credit monitoring service (which has a monthly or annual fee), they will often offer a "free" credit score as inducement. These services are offered by all the major bureaus and many other companies as well.

Providian credit card holders can get their score on-line free by logging in to their wed-site. Other than that myFico.com is where I tell most people to go. However that is a pay service.
