Is there a law in Illinois that references joint deposit accounts? Particularly the removal of a name from the account. I know that good banking practice dictates that the account should be closed, but I am having a hard time conveying this to management because I cannot find any reference to it in state law. If there is anything, could you please tell me where it is located .

I don't think there is a state law. I have " Illinois Deposit Account Administration Guide" that someone recieved from a training seminar. It highly recommends that you close an account when taking someone off that has had check writing authority. It also says though that banks should make their own guidelines and look at certain situations to decide what is best.
