We have the United Steel Workers Local XXXX wanting to move their accounts from another bank where they've been for years. What CIP documentation would be available? The individual that our Rep is talking to does not know where all the original records are. He states they are non profit as they are a union. He had a book from the National Union but no specific papers regarding the local.

Suggestions?

He needs to contact his national and get copies, not just for this, but for anything else that would come across in the future.

The PATRIOT Act states that if you cannot adequately identify the business, then you have to do due dillegence on the signers. Until you get the by-laws, etc., PATRIOT Act states that you can open the account as long as you obtain the information within a reasonable time. However, you should check your bank's policy to see what it states a reasonable time is.
