Our traditional Southern thanksgiving is something like this: Turkey with the gravy, honey glazed ham, dressing, green bean casserole, corn casserole, candied sweet potatoes, pea salad, fruit salad, homemade yeast rolls, and for desserts: chocolate, coconut and pecan pie, banana pudding... oh too much stuff to recall...LOL.. all I know is it's yummy for my tummy...
We are wierd... we don't do mashed potatoes..

The food isn't a big deal in our house. The kids would be happy with mac&cheese and hot dogs. Since there are only the four of us we don't go all out. A turkey breast is fine with mashed potatoes, corn, green beans and salad. We don't do dessert.

We're going non-traditional this year - pork chops, onion gravy, taters and broccoli.

Everyone in the family pitches in and contributes to our dinner. For an appetizer will have deviled eggs and smoked salmon pate. This year the dinner menu is roast turkey, cranberry sauce, giblet stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, yams, green beans, tossed salad, wheat rolls, apple pie and pumpkin bars with vanilla bean ice cream. Oh, will also have a selection of wine.
Of course before the day is over we will have turkey sandwhiches, lefsa, egg-nog spiked with rum, etc!
This is an exciting year as for the first time in nearly two decades we will have youngster at the table, my grand-daughter, 7 months of age.
Ok ldsnanny3, for this Northerner, please explain what are english peas and Fort Hook Beans?

It's just my husband and I, so we're not having too much. Ham, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, and pumpkin pie. This will be the first pumpkin pie I have ever made. Looks pretty easy though. Yummy!

I hope my mother-in-law puts a ham on the table. Turkey is just so dry.
Stuffing. As in it comes out of the bird after being "stuffed" in there. I'm a "dressing" man myself.
They event eat the "rumble seat" of the turkey, which is like its bladder or some kind of bowel sac/organ.
FYI, English peas a/k/a sweet peas.

Susie, Sorry for spelling fordhook beans wrong, but they are like anon said, a giant green lima bean. English Peas are just the small sweet green peas like Lesure Peas. Tell me, what is lefsa?

This year we are going more traditional. We are having 2 deep fried turkey's, one cajun and one butter and garlic. a ham, reg. mashed potatoes, garlic potatoes, green been caserole, etc. and raspberry cheesecake and PB brownies, my 2 favorites. But now Christmas, is a different story. Always very untradtional.

Giant lima beans, yum. I may have to move south.
Lefsa is a Norwegian potato pancake, favorite treat of my German/Hispanic family (go figure)! The pancake is fried, smothered in butter and sprinkled with sugar. We buy them premade, add the butter, sugar and warm them in the oven.
ZGuy20 also has lefsa, along with lutafisk -- not a family favorite, on his menu.
