Is it necessary to have the person signing a check made payment to "Cash" endorse his/her own check? I know if it is cashed by anyone else you would get it endorsed, but if the check is for myself on my own checking account, is it necessary to have me endorse my own check?

It is proof you received the cash.

Consider the teller or teller supervisor or fraud analyst reviewing the item (for whatever reason) 3 weeks later. How would they know who actually received the cash? Thus your audit trail. Banking is full of them....
