In due respect to the recession, the War on Terror, the resignation of Paul O'Neil, layoffs announced by 3M, the impending bankruptcy of United Airlines, and challenges to campaign finance reform, there will be no Friday Frivolity today, this the sixth day of December, in the year of our Lord 2002 and in the 2nd year of Bankers Online.

I think Friday Frivolity is being conducted, speakeasy-style, under the heading "BOL Withdrawal". I swear, when I started the thread, I didn't know I was creating a monster!

And I think snow closings caused us to "drift" away a bit early. Those suffering BOL withdrawals have used up this weeks frivolity time with eggnog, duct tape and frozen commodes made worse by some bad wine.

Actually, I am well aware of that thread, I just couldn't let a Friday go by without a thread with Frivolity in the title. Have a nice day!

Andy, considering you have a crown and scepter and all, I think you need a Roman Emporer kind of name. Something like "Compliancus Maximus".

Call me whatever you like, so long as it isn't late for dinner or those umbrella drinks.

I'm kind of glad Frivolity is tapered off today. I don't have much time to check in today with what's happening; we just found out we are having a compliance exam in January, and I am scrambling to get things gathered and questionairres answered. Just thought I would take a break and check in to clear my head a little before I go to a very short lunch. Next week I should have more time to spend on BOL!

If you will check the most popular thread in General Discussion you will see that Frivolity has not slacked off.

Ok, pardon me for asking a seemingly ignorant question...what's the deal with the umbrella drinks?

Umbrella drinks are sort of a virtual award, perk and a good thing to have.

You could search on "umbrella" in all the threads and assemble a virtual history or timeline of when the topic was discussed and the context in which they mentioned. But it would be a waste of time. Suffice it to say, an umbrella drink is a prize.

About this time on Friday is when I enjoy the BOL Frivolity and I would like to respond to the playing ignorant with the umbrella drinks, this reminds me of my mother's practice back in the early 60's. All the pink & green metal tumblers full if ice with umbrellas indicated the drinks that little johnny was not to touch. Of course the way we always handled that is uncle larry's blue tumbler had two straws.

From TravelChannel.com:

Best Umbrella Drinks
The Mai Tai Bar
Royal Hawaiian Hotel
2259 Kalakaua Avenue
Honolulu, HI 96815
Tel: 808-923-9711

The flamingo-colored Royal Hawaiian Hotel is the best place to sip umbrella drinks. The Mai Tai Bar is right on Waikiki Beach, providing excellent people-watching opportunities, and the views of Diamond Head and the sunset are hard to beat. The signature Mai Tai sports an orchid, a cherry and a slice of pineapple along with the necessary umbrella. If $7.75 seems like too much to pay for a mixture of CuraƧao and rum, don't worry. As one regular puts it: "Count it as at least two drinks. Possibly three." Beer and wine are also available, and you can soak up the drinks with a Mai Tai burger ($11.75) or a seafood sampler ($13.95).

With all the talk of snow on this board, I could use some warm thoughts. Where is our Hawaiian representative to tell us if this is truly the ultimate umbrella drink place? Aw heck, why not just have the BOL 20-year reunion there. See you in 2021.

Sincerely,

Zaibatsu

By the way Andy, that's with your forehead? The crown is nice and deserving, but something seems to have happened to your forehead. It's like someone removed the top of your head and replaced it with a crown. In addition, it now looks like you may have a third eye? Of course, it's the thought that counts and above it all you've got a crown!

Are you guys being sarcastic? Cuz you've got me rather worried...I always thought a Mai Tai for breakfast counted under the fruit secion of the four food groups....

Don't tell me I have to go back to straight oranges!

Then you could have a red beer (beer w/tomato juice) and fulfill the grains and vegetables categories.

I think a weekend drinking my way through the four food groups is such a good idea! Of course I'll have to add eggnog...dairy and protein

Whatever I say Monday will be the product of an amazing hangover....
